composite resin fillings
Silver amalgam fillings have long been the standard in restorative dentistry, however, in recent years they have been replaced by more aesthetic and biocompatible tooth colored composite resin fillings.
Bonding is the process by which a strong dental adhesive is used to “bond” a composite resin filling to a tooth's surface, sculpted to the ideal anatomical shape, hardened with a high intensity halogen curing light, and polished to an enamel-like finish. Bonding is completed in only one appointment and is indicated for both back and front teeth to:
- restore small cavities
- replace small, defective silver fillings
- correct small chips or fractures
- change the shape of a tooth, or improve its appearance
